Grief School: Delayed Grief
About the event
In this Grief School panel discussion we talk to experts and those who’ve experienced delayed, prolonged or complicated grief.
These types of grief can apply to people who don’t process their grief at the time but revisit it later, as well as to those who find themselves stuck in their grief, unable to find a way through it.
The panel discussion is led by Andy Langford, Chief Operating Officer of Cruse Bereavement Care.
Andy is joined by topic expert Dr Kirsten Smith from the University of Oxford. She discusses the main findings of the The Oxford Grief Study, which investigates the psychological processes that accompany severe and enduring grief reactions, known as Complicated Grief or Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD).
Musician Douglas McGregor also joins us. Douglas is the founder of Songs of Loss and Healing, work which explores the power of music in grief.
We also welcome clinical psychologist Erin Thompson, Founder and Director of The Loss Foundation, a national cancer bereavement charity that now supports people bereaved by Covid-19. Erin specialises in grief and has provided support and consultation in the NHS, private and third sector. She’s also a Winston Churchill Fellow and, in August 2017, joined the Wall of Honour at the Royal Society of Medicine.
