About the event
We are delighted to welcome Henry Marsh CBE FRCS to Good Grief Festival. Marsh was for many years the senior consultant neurosurgeon at St George’s Hospital, one of the UK’s largest specialist brain surgery units, and has pioneered neurosurgical advances in Ukraine. He is also a celebrated author of memoirs Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery (2014) and Admissions: A Life in Brain Surgery (2017).
In this interview with Rachel Clarke he will be discussing his latest work, And Finally: Matters of Life and Death, which was published in 2022 to critical acclaim. Elegiac, candid, luminous and poignant, And Finally explores Marsh’s transition from doctor to patient after his diagnosis with advanced prostate cancer, now in remission.
Rachel Clarke is an NHS palliative care doctor, activist and gifted author of three Sunday Times bestselling non-fiction books, Breathtaking (2021), Dear Life (2020) and Your Life in My Hands (2017). In 2023, she and Marsh launched the charity Hospice Ukraine, after they witnessed Russian bombardment of Kyiv and saw how tenaciously local healthcare workers are striving to deliver palliative care in Ukraine.
