This Workshop will offer advice and information on the Good Grief Trust’s Pop Up Café initiative.
These Pop Up Cafés were launched in 2019. They offer a friendly place out in the community to plug the gaps in support across the UK. They are places to pop along to for a cup of coffee and to find others who may have been through a bereavement in the local area. They’re great for helping people develop new connections and friendships in the community.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, these Virtual Lunch Cafés have run three times a week during Lockdown, with an additional evening Café to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Through vital peer support, these Cafés have proved to be a lifeline for many bereaved individuals left feeling isolated and alone in their grief. One attendee said, ‘In 12 months since my husband died, I have finally felt a glimmer of optimism’.
The purpose of the Cafés is to offer an umbrella of support in local communities and to raise awareness of the breadth of support available, both on a local and national level.
This national initiative is available to all support services and volunteers working with the bereaved. They are a simple tool to use within the healthcare sector, supporting front-line staff in their own in-house Good Grief Cafés and to promote bereavement support services and events, to the wider community.
