Good Grief Weston (IN PERSON) – Understanding Grief, Loss and Change: In Conversation with Julia Samuel, Emily Samuel and Sophie Samuel
About the event
This event will be held in person in Weston-super-Mare.
Julia, Emily and Sophie Samuel each have a wealth of experience supporting adults and children through a whole range of losses – and they just so happen to be mother and daughters! One of the UK’s leading psychotherapists, Julia has written three bestselling books – Grief Works, This Too Shall Pass and Every Family Has a Story – and received an MBE for her services to children, including her role founding charity Child Bereavement UK. Her daughter Emily is a Child Psychotherapist who specialises in trauma, early childhood, and parenting, while Sophie is an Adult Psychotherapist, with experience working in the NHS, a school, an eating disorder clinic, the domestic violence charity Woman’s Trust, and the criminal justice system. Together, they created the popular podcast Therapy Works, which invites us into Julia’s therapy room where she talks to known and unknown voices about some of life’s biggest challenges and then reflects on the conversations with Emily and Sophie.
Join Dr Lesel Dawson, from the University of Bristol, as we welcome Julia, Emily and Sophie to Weston! They’ll reflect on the difficulties we face and how we can support ourselves when someone we love dies or we encounter other kinds of loss and change, including divorce, job loss, illness or disability, substance misuse and infertility. The panel will explore the role of families in grief, loss and change, and give advice on how best to support children and young people through transitions or mental health difficulties. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
