Grief in Literature

In her enlightening lecture, Dr Lesel Dawson, from the University of Bristol, will explore how authors across time express grief and communicate imaginatively with those who have died. Focusing in particular on poems by Ben Jonson and Elizabeth Bishop, she’ll investigate the relationship between creativity and grief and consider how expressions of loss are influenced by wider cultural ideas about mourning and death.

After her lecture, Lesel will be joined by Dr Ian Calvert, a lecturer in English Literature and Classics with the University of Bristol. Lesel and Ian will then discuss ideas from the lecture and answer your burning questions in a live Q&A.

All Good Grief online events are free to attend.
