Douglas MacGregor is a musician, composer and writer who went through a profound personal experience of delayed grief 25 years after his mother died of cancer when he was seven years old.

As a musician, Douglas turned to composition and performance to help explore and cope with this grief. Studying a Masters in ethnomusicology at this time, he also focussed his research on the cross-cultural role of music in grief rituals around the world.

At the juncture of his academic research and personal experience, Douglas explores why music at times of death is ubiquitous across the world and how music can be an exceptionally powerful tool to help us cope with grief. Douglas will be performing some of his own compositions.
