Trauma and Grief (Grief Academy 5 – Webinar)
About the event
Stephen Regel says that ‘Trauma cuts through our lives. But we don’t always recognise it as trauma’. In this session, he will help us to understand how to recognise when a bereavement involves trauma, and some of the ways that it can disrupt and complicate the grieving process. Founder of the Centre for Trauma, Resilience and Growth, Stephen will share his experience of working with people who are bereaved and talk about the sense of bewilderment and meaninglessness that can follow a sudden death. He will also suggest ways we can calm our system after a traumatic experience and different coping strategies that can help us in times of stress.
In this session we will explore:
- How can trauma complicate the grieving process?
- What is the role of memory in grief and trauma?
- How can sudden bereavement impact the grieving process?
- How can we support someone who has experienced a traumatic bereavement, both directly after the event and further down the line?
This event is part of our Grief Academy course: When Grief is Complicated which will be running in February and March 2025 on the platform Teachable.
For just £25, you can join seven live webinars with leading experts, with recordings available for six months. We will also share extra course content such as reading lists and helpful videos — and there will be space to chat online and share reflections with other course members.
