What Happens in our Bodies When We’re Grieving?

About the event
How does grief affect us physically and mentally? Can we die of a broken heart? Drawing on scientific research from her new book, The Grieving Body, grief expert, neuroscientist, and psychologist Mary-Frances O’Connor will explore the range of ways that loss can impact every aspect of our being, from our heart and hormones to our immune system and ability to think. She will consider why we are more prone to illness during times of stress and how our coping behaviours affect our physical health. She will also offer suggestions of what we can do to support our bodies and minds when we are bereaved.
