What is Complicated Grief and Do I Have It? (Grief Academy 1 – Webinar)
About the event
Around 10% of bereaved people are thought to have Prolonged Grief Disorder (previously known as complicated grief). But what is it and how is it different from other forms of grief? Robert Neimeyer and Caroline Ng are renowned psychotherapists with decades of experience in thinking and talking about grief. They will explore the difference between remembering and ruminating, the role of community and ritual in grief, and how telling the story of someone’s death can open up ways of thinking about what has happened and imagining a future in the face of devastating grief.
In this session, we will explore:
- What is prolonged grief disorder? Why does it happen and what factors make us more likely to experience it?
- What other ways can grief be complicated?
- How can bereavement challenge our understanding of ourselves and the world?
- How can creativity help us express and process what happened to us?
- How can we live with devastating loss and still find joy?
This event is part of our Grief Academy course: When Grief is Complicated which will be running in February and March 2025 on the platform Teachable.
