Annmarie holds a personal chair as Marie Curie Professor of Palliative Care and is the Scientific Director of the Marie Curie Research Centre at Cardiff University. She initiated and has led the Patient Experience theme since 2010, and also leads palliative care research programmes for the Wales Cancer Research Centre, and the Primary Care and Emergency Centre in Wales.

Her main interests include avoidable harm and treatment decision-making in advanced cancer, public attitudes to death and dying, the experience of participants in clinical trials for advanced cancer, and public and patient involvement in research.

Before entering academia, she enjoyed 12 years of working with patients at the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale.
