Dr Jimmy Hay
Dr Jimmy Hay is a film director, senior lecturer, and director of the MA in Film and Television at the University of Bristol. He has written and directed a number of short and feature films and is currently engaged in a filmmaking research project exploring the representation of grief in cinema.
The first two films that he has directed as part of this project were funded by the Brigstow Institute and will be released in early 2022.
In 2015, Jimmy’s debut feature film, High Tide, was released in cinemas throughout the UK. His short film Zero Sum – the first film in which he explored grief as a primary theme – premiered at the Encounters Film Festival. He has published on short film, melodrama, and the films of Luis Buñuel and Michael Haneke.
