Dr Kate Woodthorpe
Dr Kate Woodthorpe is a Reader in Sociology at the University of Bath and director of the Centre for Death and Society (CDAS), the UK’s only research centre devoted to the study of social aspects of death, dying and bereavement.
Dr Woodthorpe specialises in the social aspects of death, dying and bereavement. Her research has delved into topics such as funeral poverty and practice, families and familial obligation, professional development for staff in the death care industry, and bereavement benefits.
She has published extensively on issues related to the end of life, has advised both UK and Scottish Government, and was editor of the academic journal Mortality until 2019.
