Dr Ruth Penfold-Mounce

Dr Ruth Penfold-Mounce is Senior Lecturer in the Sociology Department at the University of York. Her research interests focus on crime, popular culture and celebrity and death. She established the Death and Culture Network (DaCNet) in York in 2015. It runs a biennial international conference, the Emerald Book Series in Death and Culture, and a range of day symposiums focused on death issues.

Ruth regularly speaks at events including the York Festival of Ideas and co-coordinates the annual York Dead Good Festival. She has filmed with the BBC’s Hairy Bikers and BBC 4 as well as recording with Radio 2 and Radio 4. Ruth contributes to award-winning blogs and scholarly sites such as The Conversation.
