Idris has been a Consultant in Palliative Medicine in Swansea for 16 years.  He is National Clinical Lead for palliative and end of life care in Wales and chair of the National Bereavement Steering Group.  Before moving to Swansea he trained in Cambridge and London, completed higher training in Leicester, and was a Visiting Scholar at the Hastings Center in New York looking at the use of substituted judgments in decision making in end of life care.  He regularly contributes to education for a range of audiences on topics in palliative care and clinical ethics and enjoys a bit of debate, reveling in having been denounced to the press by one opponent as ‘genuinely wicked’.
