Maisie Whitehead is the Artistic Director of She Said Jump. Maisie originally trained in dance theatre at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and worked a lot in theatre for young audiences (where she learnt puppetry on the job), specialising in weird facial expressions, silly dances and being upside down a lot, long before she realised clowning was a thing.
She ran away with the circus in 2011 (not very far… Woolwich) and has since then trained in theatre clown with renowned teacher and performer Angela de Castro. In recent history she has performed with Hikapee Circus Theatre, Filskit Theatre, WinterWalker, Polka Theatre, as one half of comic cabaret duo Shebang, and alongside children’s author Michael Rosen with the HomeMade Orchestra.
She Said Jump are a physical theatre company who create stories using original aerial equipment and drawing on theatre clown, circus, dance, mime and puppetry. They make work for indoor, outdoor and digital spaces, for audiences and participants. They also collaborate and curate work with other artists.
She Said Jump have been mentored by award winning circus theatre company Ockham’s Razor, internationally celebrated clown Angela de Castro, and renowned cross-disciplinary company Fevered Sleep. Their work has been supported by Arts Council England, Jacksons Lane Theatre, Flying Fantastic, 101 Outdoor Arts, Longfield Hall, Ecosystem Coldharbour and Bristol University.
